There is much that is special about this place; the islands, the people, and what we do.

Along with our friends in the Department of State Growth's Active Tasmania team, we wanted to celebrate women and girls in sport and active recreation across Tasmania. We wanted to show women who lead, women in their communities, and women supporting other women.

This project seeks to uncover and uplift those who lead by example—whether they play, coach, officiate, volunteer, or organise. The quiet achievers and community champions whose stories deserve to be seen and heard.

You're getting exercise and you're getting fitness out of it, but that's not the main reason that a lot of people play sports.

It's not about who's the best, who's the strongest, who's the fastest. It's about giving what you can on the day.

Tasmanian Women and Girls in Sport Strategy

Active Tasmania works to support, improve, and promote opportunities for women and girls to participate in sport and active recreation in Tasmania at all levels.

Active Tasmania is currently developing the women and girls strategy for sport and active recreation. This is an exciting opportunity to improve participation and access for women and girls in all aspects of sport and active recreation.  Active Tasmania strives to achieve equity for all women and girls and seeks to understand and address the current barriers being faced. The new strategy will provide a strategic framework to enable all women and girls in Tasmania to access and engage in a sport or active recreation activity of their choice in a safe, inclusive, and fun way.
